DotNest sites upgraded to Orchard Core 3.0
Orchard Core, the content management system used by DotNest sites, has reached a new version, 3.0. We have upgraded DotNest so all sites are now using the latest release. In fact, we have directly moved to version 3.0.1.
This was a big change, we had to upgrade and adapt the whole system from .NET through Orchard Core to our own libraries. Lombiq played a big part in evaluating and debugging the new version before release, earlier this year. This collaboration led to some improvements in our own tools and libraries as well.
Here are some of the new features you might want to check out in your site:
The Indexing module has been rewritten and decoupled from specific search providers. Now you can use vector-based and structured indexing types as well.
The Search module now supports Highlights, so the relevant context can be shown directly in the results. If the search provider doesn't provide this information, the results are still displayed as content items in Summary mode, as before.
The admin menus have been reorganized with a new structure. There are some other visual changes in the admin dashboard as well.
Frontend menus can now be shown based on user permissions.
The media library now has an "Available Storage" indicator that makes it easier to stay on top of your storage quota.
There are also a lot of important small changes in Orchard Core 3.0, so make sure to check the release notes.
We have upgraded Orchard Core Commerce as well, you can read more about that here. We have also upgraded to the latest version of the CrestApps AI Suite that helps you integrate various AI providers into your DotNest site.
This new major version came with a lot of helpful migration code to ease the upgrade both from Orchard Core in general and specifically on DotNest as well. That said, if you face any trouble, don't hesitate to reach out to our support channels.
